書名になっている新造語 “nomosystematics” は，有名な Lev Berg の “nomogenesis” と同じく「法則（nomo-）」という接頭語を頂いている．序章を眺めると，著者は記述的な体系学（systematics）と説明的な法則定立学（nomothetics）とを一体のものとして認識しているようだ（p. 9）．どことなく Gary Webster and Brian Goodwin 『Form and Transformation: Generative and Relational Principles in Biology』（1996年刊行，Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, xiv+287pp., ISBN:052135451X [hbk] → 目次｜情報）の世界観を髣髴とさせるなあと思ったら，しっかり引用されていた．なるほど “そっち系” の本だったのか．
かつて Stephen. J. Gould 1980. The promise of paleobiology as a nomothetic, evolutionary discipline. Paleobiology, 6(1): 96-118（→ JSTOR） の中で，Wilhelm Windelband の「idiographisch / nomothetisch」を掲げつつ，新しい大進化理論を打ち立てようとしたことを思い出した．
