読了．19世紀前半のイギリスにおける体系学と生物地理学の歴史を論じた本書は資料性がとても高い．生物地理学史全体については：Janet Browne『The Secular Ark: Studies in the History of Biogeography』（1983年刊行，Yale University Press, New Haven, x+273 pp., ISBN:0300024606 [hbk]）か．ドイツ語だと：J. Schmithusen 『Vor- und Frühgeschichte der Biogeographie』（1985年刊行，Biogeographica Bd. 20, 166pp., Koeltz, Koenigstein）があるが，項目羅列的であまりおもしろくなかった（＝物語的ではなかった）記憶がある．むしろ，地理的分断分布に特化した論争史のレビュー：Nils von Hofsten 1916. Zur ältern Geschichte des Diskontinuitätsproblems in der Biogeographie. Zoologische Annalen, 7: 197-353 の方がまとまった「お話」になっているかもしれない．
