マングェルといえば，もちろん：アルベルト・マングェル［原田範行訳］『読書の歴史：あるいは読者の歴史』（1999年9月30日刊行，柏書房［叢書Laurus］，354+38 pp.，本体価格3,800円，ISBN:4760118063 → 書評・目次）の著者としてよく知られている．読書論・読者論のアヤシイ蘊蓄が存分に楽しめる本だった．
今回の新刊は「図書館」をターゲットにして，さらなるパワーアップが期待できそう．『夜の図書館』というタイトルからして引きずり込まれるものがある．理想の図書館，ヒトラーの蔵書票（ちゃんとハーケンクロイツが），アビ・ヴァールブルクの書庫は魅力的かも．世界各地，古今東西の図書館が登場する．とてもいい本だと思うのでぜひ訳してください（よろしくね）．
