John van Wyheの上記サイトを久しぶりに眺めていたら，Project Gutenberg へのリンクがいくつか張られていて，そのひとつに Thomas Belt『The Naturalist in Nicaragua』が昨夏に電子化公開されていたことを知る．「A Narrative of a Residence at the Gold Mines of Chontales, Journeys in the Savannahs and Forests, with Observations on Animals and Plants in Reference to the Theory of Evolution of Living Forms」という副題をもつこの本の翻訳は故・長澤純夫と大曽根静香の共訳で『ニカラグアの博物学者』（1993年10月刊行，平凡社，ISBN:458253709X）として出版されている．もちろん，今では絶版になっているようで，古書店を探すしか手はない．その原本がオンライン公開されているというのは収穫だ．
