科学の認知基盤を論じた Peter Carruthers の論文「The roots of scientific reasoning: infancy, modularity and the art of tracking」（所収：Peter Carruthers, Stephen Stich, and Michael Siegal (eds.) 2002. The Cognitive Basis of Science. Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, pp. 73-95）のキーワードのひとつである「追跡の技法（the art of tracking）」は本書に由来する．ケープタウンで出版された本書は，オンライン書店だとペーパーバック版で3〜7万円という超高値がつけられているが，幸いなことに，著者が開設しているサイト〈Tracking Science〉から pdf 版が公開されている．これまたもっと早く気づくべき文献だった．
