ライデン大学に提出された著者の学位論文．一般には流通していない出版物．系統樹（あるいは系統ネットワーク）の祖先子孫関係に基づいて，系譜間の「永続的断裂（permanent splits）」を同値類（equivalence class）として切り出そうとする試み．著者はこの同値類を「internodon ＝ internodal species」と呼び，internodon の複合体としての【種】を「composite species」として厳密に定義しようとしている．
Woodger - Gregg 流の数理論理学の“ことば”が通じる読者ならば，著者がめざす目標がどこにあるかが理解できると思われる．なお，この学位論文の一部は雑誌論文として別途公表されている：
